José TODARO, opera singer (tenor)

 

   José TODARO is a tenor with a somewhat magical name, synonymous with sunshine, brightness, warmth and light, like Sicily, the country where he was born. But he also has an intuitive intelligence wich enables him to size audiences up at a glance to conquer them even better. A true star of the stage, he has a special place in the lyric world, he is oversensitive and possesses an undeniable latin charm.

He has already achieved quite a successful career appearing on stage in the most prestigious theatres and opera houses in France. The Opera Garnier in Paris honoured him by engaging him several times. He also distinguished himself abroad by singing throughout the world beside prestigious artists, who have a great estim for him : Sylvia SASS, Ghena DIMITROVA, Montserrat CABALLE or Kiri Te KANAWA.

He sang accompanied by worldwide famous conductors such as Lamberto GARDELLI, Georges PRETRE, Seiji OSAWA and Herbert Von KARAJAN. José TODARO has more than forty operas in his repertoire : La BOHEME, TOSCA, WERTHER, La TRAVIATA … oratorios by VERDI, BERLIOZ, BEETHOVEN, MOZART … Classical light operas … and operettas by Francis LOPEZ, for example " GIPSY " and " VOLGA " which were especially composed for him.

Deeply respectful for each work which he interprets with an unusual emotion, and conforming to the composer's demands, he is considered by the critics as one of the beast lyric singers of our time.

Having created several parts in operettas which were very popular, José TODARO ran the operetta " GIPSY " composed by Francis LOPEZ for three successive theatre seasons at the Châtelet in Paris, which is absolutely exceptionnal in the history of French light operas.

José TODARO also proved to be an extemely telented T.V. hot since the highlest levels of the Telemetropole from Montreal entrusted him for several years with the responsibility for a programme on Canal 10 which was called by his own name. In this programme he sang several of his famous successes and was awarded the Prize for the best audience !

José TODARO took part in the celebrations of the five hundreth anniversary of Christopher Colombus's arrival into the America as honorary President.

Very often invited as a guest of honour, he presided at the Yearlyy Prize Award Ceremony organized by the Chales Oulmont Foundation in Paris.

To celebrate the European Countries Union, he recorded " La Messa di Gloria " by PUCCINI and " L'Hymne des Nations " de VERDI, and has become well-known for these two works : at the moment, he is one of the few tenors who can overcome the difficulties of these works.

For several years, José TODARO made records with CBS and DECCA. For the 125th anniversary of the SACEM (French Society of Music Composers), DECCA paid a tribute to him in a record dedicated to the great comtemporary opera singers : alongside Mario del Monaco, Placido Domingo, Giuseppe di Stephano …

José TODARO recorded the album " Vienne, Ville de mes rêves " with B.M.G.. Sony Music has realised a CD with 20 titles among his biggest successes.
